For A 430 it is even simpler, as the instruments that play these pitchs are
not very precise, generally a simple shave of A0 with a rabbit should
suffice, lets say 1/6 of the key. A0 being larger than other keys generally
most will not notice.

To get back to A440 , well a cardboard of the correct thickness do the
trick.
I do that routinely on a regular basis without further problems.

Thanks for your attention.

Kind of drastic, isn't it? :-) Anyway, I don't want the Fortepiano
at A-415. I brought it up to A-430. Thanks for the idea, though,
I "think". :-)

But , Avery, to have your piano at 415 it is fairy simple :
Just was the first A0 (remember to come with a sharp saw) , so the first
note is now A#.
  Regulate the left pedal accordantly.
Voila, your piano have transposed to 415.

The next day (don't forget your favorite Titebond) glue back the missing
note.
You'll have no problem with the last treble note as the music played will
hardly cover more than 5 octaves anyway.

I do that routinely on a regular basis on Steinways, and had never problem
with it.

  Really why bother ?

best and yes you can mention my name after cutting the key I live on
another continent but I'll accept reclamations by email (only) .

Thanks, Lawrence. We have a dedication recital coming up for our new
Maene Fortepiano and Malcolm Bilson from Cornell is performing. In
answer to my question about whether it's capable of being tuned to
A-440, he said yes but said that most of the repertoire for that
music is usually performed at A-430.

He's asked to tune for his own recital but I at least wanted to get
it stable at 430. Yesterday it was app. A-415! Oops. :-)

Am I correct that to tune to A-430 with an ETD, that
would be a 40 cents offset? Thanks.
