This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Hi Mary, =20 That's worth a try. Wish I would have thought of that before buying the new table and DC system! (I have 2 of them sitting here by me never used) However, we have the "experiment" on the way and I'll see how the DC system works with a skirt and/or cover. I am going to use your idea on one of the other harpsichords and compare. I guess my question is where would I put the packet, inside the action cavity or on top of the soundboard? =20 Regards, Jim Busby =20 -----Original Message----- From: caut-bounces@ptg.org [mailto:caut-bounces@ptg.org] On Behalf Of Mary Smith Sent: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 8:54 PM To: College and University Technicians Subject: Re: [CAUT] Damp chaser table =20 Hi Jim, I tend to agree with those who have advised you to get a room humidifier. Easier, cheaper, helps the expensive organ too. Also, though I guess low RH is more of a problem than high RH in your neck of the woods, what about Moisture-Sorb? I have had good luck with one packet sitting in my harpsichord here at home - though Austin's RH has been pretty high recently, the tuning has held comparatively well. You could install a couple packs in the pipe chamber of the organ as well. Another idea to try.... It comes from Dampchaser) Has anyone done this? It seems to be the only way to installa dampchaser without being invasive. =20 Also, this harpsichord is closed in on the bottom, unlike the others we have. IOW, the soundboard isnt seen from the bottom, but is enclosed with a wood panel being on the very bottom. Will this work w/o being next to the actual soundboard? =20 FYI, the room its in is a large organ room and the RH changes so much that the harpsichords pitch varies on any given day by 0 -15 cents. Hence the need for humidity control. The professor teaches many harpsichord students and needs the beast to stay in tune. Quite frankly, Im not fond of tuning it so often. I suggested a room humidifier, (or even a large aquarium&) but we opted to try this. =20 Anyone ideas would be greatly appreciated.=20 =20 Thanks, Jim Busby BYU _______________________________________________ caut list info: https://www.moypiano.com/resources/#archives ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
