Hmm, as long as people pay me money to work on pianos, I don't care about
what they do to any of the non-durable parts. I don't advise anyone to put
tacks in the hammers, but if something like that ruins a set of hammers in a
hurry, as opposed to wearing them out over a long period of time, it is still a
hammer job to me.
It wouldn't bother me at all if a sudden craze swept the country for
splitting hammer felt in half for the odd sound it makes. It just means more
replacements and than pays my bills.
Yes, I am a mercenary. Tear them hammers up, I know how to fix
things....
