Hi David, Its not uncommon for Imperials to break bass strings, since their basses are strung at quite a high percentage of breaking strain. For example, the note which is the equivalent of C4, on a normal 88 notes compass, is strung with 23 g core wire (1.3 mm diameter) at a tension of just over 180 Kg. Any sloppy tuning hammer technique over a number of years will result in breakages at such tensions. Even with care, anything can happen after the first decade. Its time the Imperial you saw yesterday was restrung. Ron O. >Hi all: anyone have experience with a twenty year old Bosendorfer >Imperial?
