[CAUT] pros and cons of individual strings

Hi,
     As far as individually hitched plain wire strings goes, are there any 
benefits besides minimizing  the effect of string breakage? They take 
longer to string-up in the first place, and "may" be more tuning stable. 
Other than that, I just dunno. Perhaps someone out there has an opinion or 
a reference I could find.
