I would guess that your tuning technique has put pressure on your joints =
& nerves in such a way that your hand is telling you to make a change. =
Get it checked out before things get really bad.

I agree with the others who commented that you should try a ball-end =
lever. Give some serious consideration to the Fujan lever. I have no =
connection, other than being a satisfied user. They are pricey, but the =
cost of the alternative is prohibitive.

A number of years ago I developed a cyst in the palm of my right hand =
where I was holding the end of my tuning hammer. When tuning, it put =
pressure on a nerve & was very painful. I had it removed (simple =
operation), but I altered my technique a bit to move the pressure points =
around & have not a that problem since. The Fujan lever has a very =
comfortable ball and really good balance, so it is easy to vary the grip =
& distributes pressure evenly. He gives a 30 day, money-back guarantee, =
so it's worth a try. His web site is: http://www.fujanproducts.com/ =20

It would be interesting to hear what other "vintage" techs have =

along this line. Like I say, the diagnosis is "degenerative joint =
disease",
so it's been in the process for a long time, but the Judo just =
kicked it
over the edge....A pity too. It was lots of fun, & I was just =
getting
decent enough to kick some serious poste-rear-iours! :-)

With all the pounding I do with my left hand fingers, especially the =
middle one, I expected that hand to be the first to suffer from some =
sort of ailment. But the middle finger of my right hand, the tuning =
lever hand, is what is bothering me. In the morning when I first get up, =
I can hardly bend it, but then later in the day, I can't straighten it =
out. I hold the hammer by the end, and do not have a ball on the end of =
my lever. The only thing I can attribute it to is racquet ball. I play =
hard about 2 or 3 times a week for about an hour and a half. But it =
doesn't hurt while I'm playing.=20
