Oh, my newest experiment is two days old, so I don't have a
firm opinion. It's an LED 'upgrade' kit from NiteIze that
retros the ubiquitous AA Maglite into an clustered LED.
Details found at < http://tinyurl.com/73zuk >.

These AA Mags were the only game in town for a long time, and
since I have about six of them, I thought I'd try the retro on
one of them.

I've been using this Mag upgrade(I believe it's the same one
with 3 leds, about $10 from Ace Hardware), for a month now and
really like the brightness.

My co-worker has gone over the top on trying out different
flashlights and has purchased 5-6 in the past few weeks. Most
of his research was done at: http://www.ledmuseum.org/ (One
flashlight he purchased was just over $100!!!!)
This is SERIOUS flashlight information!! Check out the top
picks, particularly the INRETECH 2AA LED FLASHLIGHT ADAPTER
which is similar to what Jim was referring to.
