I would allow the student to work off the expense they had created.  This 
could be cleaning all pianos in the school, maybe show them how to remove 
fallboards so that they could chase the pencils and paper clips that seem to collect 
in school pianos, working as a stage hand for the rest of the semester, etc.  
     Something to help that person learn that all actions have consequences.
