Great - I can't wait to burn (figuratively speaking) some shanks and try
the improved method. Many thanks, Jon.

I always remove the wick arm when finished and screw on the caps.

I pull the wick even on both ends and light them to burn off the extra
alcohol,
blow it out and place it on the edge of my case to dry before placing it
back
into its slot on the tool pallet.

To keep the alcohol from running down the spout, leave the top cap off.
The liquid flows better with no back pressure which is probably induced
by the flame.
