I sometimes have noticed a sizzle coming from a few of them. Once the 
strings were off or slack and pulled to one side I would rub them 
superficially with some fine grit emery cloth (to remove any burrs) 
and then load them with graphite. Maybe overkill ... but anything 
which improves rendering seems like a good idea.
