Kinda maybe for the same reason a Ford Transmission doesn't just bolt  
right up to a Chevy 350?

Inventors patent their ideas for a reason -- keep somebody else from  
stealing the income from their ideas.  Haven't I heard that other  
parts manufacturers can't legally duplicate that scallop design to  
exact dimensions?

Just one reason.
