I wasn't green at all. I was 100% self employed for 14 years with a couple of "on call" smaller colleges around the Seattle area which "got my feet wet" in a CAUT sort of way. In that frame, I guess I was a bit "green". I sought out a full time CAUT position getting really tired of long drives and ferry-boat commuting from the island I lived on. Increase car expenses by double for me! Made for super long days...Now, I'm 4 miles from UNL and my customers are too, save a church 90 miles away with a 9'2" Bluthner brand new. It's worth the drive and I charge for it :>) Paul Jeff Tanner <jtanner at mozart.sc.edu> Sent by: caut-bounces at ptg.org 11/15/2007 06:16 PM Please respond to College and University Technicians <caut at ptg.org> To ilvey at sbcglobal.net, College and University Technicians <caut at ptg.org> cc Subject Re: [CAUT] CAUT credential vs. academic program? Ideally, at least one job M-F, with out of town jobs or churches with multiple pianos on as many Saturdays as we can keep booked. M-F isn't always easy, with trying to make kids ball games, etc. We grossed about $21K outside last year and still struggled to meet basic expenses for a family of 5. Just out of curiosity, how many of you CAUT's took on a college/university position when you were beginning, green, but had some skills? I felt green when I started, but within a few weeks felt pretty confident. But most of my training was as a CAUT assistant, so I had some good background.
