It’s the sugar. They should only sell diet drinks in the machines at a school! dp David M. Stealth damage. I couldn’t see any residue but it was gunked to high-heaven. I had to re-do the dampers and put all new parts in the action. The bass strings obviously had to be replaced but the treble wire was ok as long as none of the sprite got into the agraffe…one tiny drop in an agraffe is enough to completely kill the note and there was no way I could find to clean it out without replacing the wire. I hope the person who did it feels guilty about it the rest of his/her life… Eric Eric Wolfley, RPT Director of Piano Services College-Conservatory of Music University of Cincinnati From: caut-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:caut-bounces at ptg.org] On Behalf Of reggaepass at aol.com Sent: Friday, November 14, 2008 1:30 PM To: caut at ptg.org Subject: Re: [CAUT] Root beer damage Same thing has happened at CalArts on a U-1... I had a full set go dead from just a sprinkling of some sort of soda. The sprinkling came from a spill on top (lid closed) of a Yamaha U-1. Some leaked through the hinge area. You wouldn't think, with the placement of that hinge, that much would splatter to the strings, and not much did (visual inspection), but the strings were dead dull. Had to be replaced. I cleaned up the hammers and dampers well enough for function. They just had drips here and there on them.
