Greetings,
The factory replacement back actions will usually fit okay on a late
model piano, however, on older ones you will often find that the "simple" side
to side adjustment will require not only adding a spacer to the bass pivot
block,(up to 1/2"), moving the treble block, and redrilling, and usually quite a
few of the underlevers that will need to to be spaced and traveled. Tending to
loose leads and poor pinning often complete the chores. All of this was on
one that I installed last week, and the end-pins were installed crooked, too.
There is also a dimensional change on the depth of the tray, with the
older ones being a little deeper. It is faster than assembling the kits from
Renner and Tokiwa, but then again, there is a huge difference in the price, so a
tech might be passing up some $100 per hour work that they can do in their own
shop if they choose to use factory stuff.
