[CAUT] Protek against string falseness

Hi Folks

Thanks for all the comments. I dont think Protek is water based... but I
will check out exactly what it consists of. As for whether or not it
can change the quality/behavior... i.e. harmonics of bass strings...
that is not in question here. I have measured clear and obvious changes
in para-inharmonicities every single time. Whether or not one self
choses to perceive a given change as positive or negative is of course
another matter.

As to experimenting on customers pianos.... I think I did mention I was
experimenting on a few junkers laying around town... so that point is I
think adequately addressed.

The other bit was adding to bridge pins. I have been looking at
alternatives to adding CA due to the problem of needing to remove
strings to really do the job correctly. Protek here again does have a
definite impact on the sound of a string so treated. Another thing
which I think shows even better promise is Cellulose lacquer thinned to
about 1/6th strength. Cleans up the sound every bit as good as anything
else... and again raises questions as to what actually causes classic
false beats.

Thoughts on the long term impact of Protek or that of Cellulose lacquer
on the wood of the bridge are also welcome

Thanks
RicB
