I do believe the "topstick tongue" is the same as the short stick, and it comes in a satin ebony finish. BTW, when I was at UA, a lot of voice performers wanted the lid lower than the short stick, but not all the way down. So for a while they put a black board eraser under the lid. Then someone suggested I cut a nickel lid prop down to about 5", and screw it on the lid prop. Worked great. I put one on three of the performing pianos, and they were used constantly Willem (Wim) Blees, RPT Piano Tuner/Technician Mililani, Oahu, HI 808-349-2943 Author of: The Business of Piano Tuning available from Potter Press www.pianotuning.com <http://www.pianotuning.com> -----Original Message----- From: Bob Hull <hullfam5 at yahoo.com> To: caut at ptg.org Sent: Thu, Sep 17, 2009 6:41 pm Subject: [CAUT] topstick I need to order a short stick for a Steinway D. In the parts catalog, I see a topstick tongue. Is that the same thing as the short stick? Also, it comes as ebony finished if wanted - I wonder if that will be gloss or satin. If it's high polish I'll have to rub it out to a satin. Steinway parts dept. just had an answering machine and they haven't called back.
