[CAUT] Crescendo punchings was RE: aftertouch

Some key beds seem to telescope more action noise than others. For the most part the punchings have worked out really well but there have been two cases where removing them and installing the woven felts reduced the key bed/action noise appreciable. I love the accuracy.
I have them on my own piano (Stwy B) and I love the solid feel. However I am not a great pianist but I can see that perhaps if I were...and if I were playing quite forcefully that the abrupt stop might cause a sensation I may not like.

Weird again. I've nothing but positiveremarks from staff and student pianists regarding the punching changes. Do they like the mushy feel of soft punchings? I don't thinkany of them notice any tonal differences as claimed. I really don'teither, but love the feel when properly regulated.

Weird indeed. I have removed all of the sets I have installed,to the immediate relief of all the pianists involved.

They do all that but theyalso hurt my fingers sometimes. I’ve used them but I’ve also removedthem. Clearly defined regulation at the bottom is nice when you’reregulating but it’s not always that nice to play. The reviews aremixed, in my book, and I wish I could tell you when and why.

This squishiness of the felt is not afactor with Crescendo Punchings
Yes, they make it possible to have less aftertouch(and, therefore, more power) and still be clearly defined about where keydip ends with a reasonable landing (without feeling like concrete). Ihave followed Andre Oorebeek's practice and install them routinely as partof every action job.

Final check is
to take each key through escapement (slowly and controlled) and then
press to the bottom and compress the front punching a bit. The hammers
should each rise from drop the same amount, not much but definitely
some (1 mm?).

That's a lot of lost territory. Thissquishiness of the felt is not a factor with Crescendo Punchings.
