[CAUT] Preaching to the choir

Jim,

With all due respect, are you writing this on behalf of the Board, the Bylaws Committee, or just voicing your own opinion? I have received no comments from either the Board or the Bylaws Committee Chair suggesting that we haven't performed our duties or done so in a timely manner.

The facts are:

A. Our plans for the CAUT program for this year's Institute were submitted to the Institute Director by the August 15 deadline and are all included in the Institute Program Guide.

B. A proposal which was revised on recommendations of the Bylaws Committee was submitted to the Board by the November 30 deadline and I assume it was forwarded to the Bylaws Committee for review.

C. Timely progress reports were made to the Mid-Year Board and for the report to Council. Quarterly reports weren't made because our work tended to be bunched towards the main reporting deadlines.

The proposal we submitted this year is substantially different than last year's in substance and organization and reflects suggestions made by the Bylaws Committee.

For anybody who hasn't seen them before, I have attached copies of our proposal (which can also be read in the latest Journal Supplement), a draft of a Policy Manual and Curriculum (both of which have been posted before), and a copy of an article I wrote which was published in the CAUT Corner section of the PTG Journal. I'm sorry but I can't recall which month it was published. This article includes our mission statement and defines what we have hoped to accomplish these past few years.

I don't have an exact number, but the CAUT Committee members who have conceived and worked on this proposal represent well over 100 years of collective institutional experience. We obviously believe such an endorsement and the supporting curriculum will be of benefit to contract and full-time CAUTs. For people starting off in institutional work or seeking to advance to better positions, the incentive to gain the specialized knowledge we can impart and share in this manner could be invaluable.

Eric Wolfley
CAUT Chair

The CAUT Committee's focus on a CAUT Endorsement, with the 2008-9 board's strong encouragement and official support, was a first step in what still could be an effective marketing approach.

et al;
I have watched in some amazement at the things being said which are not comlimentary toward PTG, at large, due to PTGs inaction in approving a CAUT endorsement/certification.....makes one wonder what CAUT has done to help themselves........

College and University Technicians Committee was charged at the end of 2008/2009 Council with the following:
A. Plan for CAUT techs at Convention and Institute. Submit plan to Institute Director by August 15.
B. Continue developing a CAUT endorsement proposal and supporting cirriculum for presentation to the Mid-Year Board.
C. Report on progress to PTG Council and quarterly to Board

A.......has not happened yet and is not due to happen before Aug 15.

B...... I don't know if this has happened or not.
   1. Was this done?
   2. If so may we see a copy of it?

C..... I don't know if these Quarterly reports to the Board were made, do you?
       1. Were these reports made?
       2. If so may we see copies of them?

As I understand the CAUT endorsement proposal sent forth this year......... it was substantially the same as last years and last years was deemed inadequate by Council....if this is so...... isn't CAUT shooting itself in the foot?
If CAUT is limping should they be blaming "PTG" at large for "not doing enough" for CAUT?

Just some questions that others are too diplomaticc to ask. :-)
