According to Acoustic & Digital Piano Buyer (the new Piano Book supplement), the GB1K (4'11") is the only Yamaha grand built in Indonesia and sold in the US. I can't imagine the GC1 being built in China and coming out as nice as it is, so Japan is a safe bet. The book doesn't say.  The GC1 is essentially the descendent of the old GH1, isn't it?

Also, according to the same source, "The GC1M and GC2 have regular case construction, duplex scale, soft-close fallboards, and sostenuto pedal (the sostenuto was restored this year to the GC1, which was then renamed the GC1M), making them in most respects just like the models C1 and C2..."

So, why would anyone want to pay $7K more for a C1 or C2? You can buy an Indonesian made grand for that difference in price.  What is it that's missing that allows the GC models to cost so much less? Not just hammers, right?

Inquiring minds....
Jeff
