Kevin- No, the new egg shaped hammers are the Blue Points, which I have good reports on also. Lloyd sells what he calls Renner Hamburg Steinway hammers, which I think are different than what NY sells as Hamburg hammers. I suppose you could chalk it up to different batches, but the Renner USA seemed softer to me, even needing some reinforcement, which the Hamburg hammers from Steinway usually don’t. The extra width gives a little more heft if you need it, and I had no clearance problems putting them on a NY with average tapering. If you want things somewhat brighter, the Hamburg hammers sold through S&S NY would fit the bill better than the Renner USA. These things change along the way but this was what I found six moths ago or so. YMMV. David David C.
