The difference in power between a piano with badly traveled/squared/mated hammers and one in which those parameters have been refined can be pretty startling. Focus, attack, clarity of sustain are all enhanced, like it is a completely different instrument. Or so I have experienced on many occasions. Until these things have been addressed, judgment of the hammers is often pretty iffy. If you go about voicing hammers prior to refining travel/square/ mate, you can end up with real confusion, and will have likely made matters a good bit worse.
