The Oberlin = Conservatory of Music, home to 199 Steinway grand pianos, is Steinway’s = oldest continuous client and has been an all-Steinway school since 1877. = <O:P></O:P> = The seminar = will focus on the ways that institutional technicians approach Steinway = pianos which are not only under constant use, but which also must meet = high-level performance requirements in studios and on the concert stage. = The Conservatory facilities will be used extensively, from working on = studio pianos to listening to the concert instruments of the = Conservatory concert venues. <O:P></O:P><DIV = class="MsoBodyText"> Each day = will begin with a lecture addressing regulating, tuning and voicing in = the university setting. Particular attention will be paid to maintaining = Steinway & Sons instruments. Each attendee will work on a piano in = the school, under supervision of the instructors from both the = Conservatory and Steinway & Sons in New York. </DIV>Additionally there = will be afternoon discussions that will address particular aspects of = the institutional technician’s duties. There will also be evening = lectures, musical presentations and social time. The instructors from Oberlin Conservatory will be; John = Cavanaugh, Director of Piano Technology, Robert Murphy Curator of Forte = Pianos and Piano Technician and Ken Sloan Director of Piano Technology –= Emeritus. <O:P></O:P>Technicians = from Steinway & Sons, New York will be Ed = Wedberg, = Assistant Head Technician of the Concert Department at = Steinway Hall in New York City, and Eric Schandall, Administrator of = Technical Training and Education. <O:P></O:P> = Intrigued?
