MUSIC EVENTS - The UA College of Arts and Sciences<BR>School of Music will
sponsor several events this month. Unless <BR>otherwise<BR>indicated, all events
will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the<BR>Moody Music Building and are

www.music.ua.edu/calendar. <BR><BR>UA Professor Gerald Loren Welker,
director and conductor of the Alabama<BR>Wind Ensemble, will conduct the group
for his final time Tuesday, April<BR>25. The program will include "Festive
Overture" by Dmitri Shostakovich,<BR>a world premiere performance of "Short'N
Suite (To Gerald Welker)" by<BR>Willem Blees, a world premiere performance of
"Black Fire" by Nigel<BR>Clark with violinist Peter Sheppard Skaerved, and
"Regina di Saba" by<BR>Ottorino Respighi. Twenty years of favorites will be
performed by the<BR>Alabama Wind Ensemble with alumni of the ensemble. The
pieces will<BR>include "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" by John Williams, "October"
by Eric<BR>Whitacre, "March" from First Suite in E-flat by Gustav
Holst,<BR>"Variations on a Korean Folksong" by Jon Barnes Chance, "With
Each<BR>Sunset" by Richard Saucedo, "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral"
by<BR>Richard Wagner, "Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa,
and<BR>"Swedish Folk Song" by Peter Graham. <BR><BR><BR>The Crimson Handbell
Ringers will be in concert Saturday, April 29 at 4<BR>p.m. in the Choral/Opera
Room of the Moody Music Building. Willem Blees<BR>directs the group. The concert
will feature "Celebration" by Eugene<BR>Butler; "Fughetta" by George Frideric
Handel; "Festival Overture" by<BR>Mary McLeary; "Festivity on 'Westminster
Chimes'" arranged by Ellen <BR>Jane<BR>Lorenz; "Sine Nomine" by Ralph Vaughn
Williams; "O The Deep, Deep Love<BR>of Jesus" arranged by Christine Anderson;
"Moon River" by Henry <BR>Mancini;<BR>"Caprice" and "Outburst" by Cynthia
Dobrinsky; "Beauty and the Beast" <BR>by<BR>Alan Menken; and "Danza Festivo" by
Arnold Sherman. <BR><BR>
