Hi Debra,
All the piano supply houses I know of accept a purchase order from a university. IOW, the university will receive the same treatment and price as an individual piano technician. Or, if your university is mostly using purchase cards instead of PO’s, they will accept p-cards just like credit cards. So order direct, as the music department (or as “Facilities” or whoever is footing the bill) and install it yourself. Not a particularly hard job, and I’m sure there are several posts describing techniques in the archives. [What does s.o.p. stand for, standard operating procedure?]. I have purchased trucks from Jansen, Schaff, and Pianotek. All provide good units.

I am still a new to this list and really appreciate your help as I settle into my new university position at UCSD. We are looking to purchase two spider dollies for two grand pianos (SS B and SS L) so that we can keep them positioned on them and easily move the pianos as needed. This is s.o.p. for the university. Facilities has typically gone through the local steinway dealer who sells the unit and comes to install it. The price seems rather steep and I am wondering what other universities use and from whom they purchase their dollies. Thanks for your help.
