I don't think it was equipped as well as was requested, and was also down-sized from the original specs (it was also the last finished room, several months after classes started in the new building). It is about 16' x 24', with cabinets and filing cabinets on three sides. Not really room for a drill press or anything like that. And the cabinets are "standard" kitchen cabinet size, i.e., the countertops are not deep enough to regulate an action on, so make sure you get a workbench deep enough for what you need. I have an L-shaped desk (same as every faculty studio) in one corner, that when combined with the cabinets behind me, takes up about a 10'x6' corner. The double doors are on the same side of the room, and there has to be enough room for them to swing into the room. The remaining usable floor space is approximately 9'x16' (leaving walking space and room to open cabinet doors). There is barely room for one 9' grand, or two smaller grands turned tail to tail. Items like the vertical piano tilter tend to be stored under one of the grands in the shop.</DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV>I do like being across the hall from the freight elevator. Make sure you have double doors into every room you want to be able to freely move pianos in and out of (yes, that didn't make it into our recital hall), and be sure a 9' grand can go through ALL halls AND doors and around ALL hall corners without having to break it down on its side.</DIV><DIV><BR class="khtml-block-placeholder"></DIV><DIV>And ask for piano storage space. There are going to be times you will need to store pianos out of the way and you can't just keep all of them in your shop.
