And the hammers need to be just treble side of center unison to so the soft shift pedal works as planned.  That puts both treble side... which is what you seem to be saying you have.  If so.. you have no conflict per se... just a degree of how far left you should go. I like to start with the key ends and key frame myself... if I am to start from scratch that is.  Rip off the cleat felt and shim with paper instead til you have the key ends so that you have your key ends just left of center to the dampers. Put the stack on, and right check block on... and allow for about 2-3mm of side travel and see where your hammers line up both with and without shift pedal engaged. Assuming no one has at some point totally mucked up things at some point with a rebuild... you should be able to find the best fit spot pretty quickly. If when hammers are lined up correctly (all 4 sections) then look at your whippen heels and capstans. Again... unless someone has been dinking around things should be decent enough.  If you have problem there.. first inspect the relevant whippen angles.  I like to shim there if possible instead of at the hammers. Once in a while you run into a major problem and ... well.. if so you are in for some fun. Cheers RicB ................ Here's the problem and what I find with that UNoriginal cloth  *on*   the cleat: My hammers seem to need to go way to the LEFT. (Felt on cleat too   thick?) *But* the underlevers  are way to the RIGHT on the end of the key.    (Felt not think enough!?) Capstans are relatively square under the wippens. Right now I just want the exact dimensions of the cleat to "start over". I'll keep at this and checking over stuff, but I'm about to pull out   my phoney red hair and call in the authorities.
