It will be held at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, which is Steinway’s oldest continuous client, has been an all-Steinway school since 1877 and is home to 199 Steinway grand pianos.<O:P></O:P> <O:P></O:P>The seminar will focus on the ways in which Conservatory technicians approach Steinway pianos which are not only under constant use, but which also must meet high-level performance requirements in studios and on the concert stage.<O:P></O:P> <O:P></O:P><DIV class="MsoNormal">Each participant will be assigned a Steinway grand to service. Ed Wedberg, of Steinway and Sons Concert and Artist Department at Steinway Hall and Eric Schandall, Steinway and Sons Administrator of Technical Training and Education, will present technical lectures on concert preparation and music school service. John Cavanaugh, Robert Murphy, and Ken Sloane members of the Oberlin Conservatory Department of Piano Technology, will lead discussion panels and hands-on training aimed at solving problems faced by piano technicians in the music school.<O:P></O:P></DIV><DIV class="MsoNormal"> <O:P></O:P></DIV>Additionally, Mr. Michael Lynn, Associate Dean, Technology and Facilities Professor of Recorder and Baroque Flute, will teach a class that addresses the important relationship between the administration and the Piano Technology Department. Dr. David Breitman, chair of the Oberlin Conservatory’s Department of Historical Performance will offer a general interest lecture on the history of the pianoforte.<O:P></O:P> <O:P></O:P>Located in a small town in Northern Ohio, Oberlin College is 45 minutes from Cleveland and its cultural resources and 30 minutes from the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, where transportation is available to Oberlin by limousine service or car rental. Oberlin’s rural surroundings are excellent for bicycling and jogging. Housing is provided in on-campus residence halls (not air –conditioned) just a few blocks from the Conservatory. <O:P></O:P> <O:P></O:P>Enrollment in this seminar is limited to 12 students.
