Are pianists idiots or not ??.... really not the kind of question I
think we should be addressing. They are most certainly human like all
the rest of us... and many of the choices the make are influenced by
human frailties to be sure. But they have a good sense in some
intuitive way of what they want.....<br>

Case in point. One of the worlds finest classical pianists hails from
here, and recently complained about a 20 year old D beginning to feel a
bit unpredictable and sluggish... difficult repetition. This
instrument had a new set of hammers installed... factory ready glued
and pre-voiced sort just 7 years ago and has seen only moderate use
since.<br>

Here is what I found. Very worn key bushings with lots of side
friction due to gunk buildup on the keypins and bushing felt. And the
key leading did not match the hammers at all. Front Weight in the
entire treble section were extremely high... 6-14 grams above Stanwoods
maximums. A 5.7 Stanwood ratio with roughly a top medium set of
Strikeweights. The below table will tell you quite a bit.... <br>

The pianist called it pretty well if you ask me... <br>
