The meaning of meantone most used is that <I>re</I> is half way between <I>do </I>and <I> mi </I>making the two whole steps equal. It is also described as the even division of the didemic comma to two equal parts.</DIV><DIV style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; ">The rest of the scale is produced by eight perfect plagel (fifths downward) fifths back to the third of the scale. It may be surprising what this does for the thirds of the primary chords of the primary key.
