I presume when you say they've become problematic, that you mean the bushings are tight, and the hammers, and/or wippen flanges are sticking. If that is the case, the bushings can ben reamed, just like cloth bushings. Steinway used to have a teflon bushing repair kit, but I don't know if those are still available. They had polished centerpins in them. (both ends are round, so that the cut end of the center pin doesn't dig into the bushings.) If you can't get those, you can use regular center pins, and cut them. <br>

Eventually, when the hammers need to be replaced, you should replace the shanks and flanges, too, and solve the problem, once and for all. . <br>

I service an older Steinway B with teflon bushings that have over the years become problematic to the point the owner now wants do do something about it. The client does not want to replace parts. Any solutions for a "fix" other than rebushing and pinning, which I've done in the past?<br>
