Hi all, Why is it that hammer rest felts on wippens fall apart in the upwards direction? (No pic, sorry, I already took off the felt)  I know they're only supposed to cushion the blow of the hammer shank on hard blow, so, shouldn't they compress over decades?  I'm tearing apart the action from this  Steinway  " '26" M.  Half of the rest felts have either fallen off (?) or or seriously loosened up and tilted away that they are useless in function as to what they're supposed to do. It's just a practice room, but, since it is a practice grand, and a Steinway, I'm going to do it right!!  Also, lots of repinning to do.. I figure this set of hammers to last 5 years... by then, the shanks will be shot.  The "swing" is 20-30 swings...  Since I haven't hung the hammers yet, should I re-pin, or replace.  BTW, the knuckles are marginal. On that note, the Pianotek part # 1695 is supposed to be 3/8" thick and it came with 1/2" thick.  I'll send them back, but has anyone else experienced a goof in labeling of this Tokiwa product?    It's just a hassle.  No worries, though, I'm still working on the plate and soundboard. BTW, the shoe shine method with emory cloth did the trick!! :>)   BTW, on laying on a new, thin coat of laquer on the soundboard.  Do you think 2 coats is enough?  I put the first coat on today, on top of a thin coat of sanding sealer, and plan on putting on a decal and then a second coat.
