don't measure aftertouch at the key, but rather as a function of what =
happens at the hammer after drop. So, I have no idea what .030" =
aftertouch does to the feel of the piano. I just don't think of it =
that way. That said, our Ds get thunderous power from .390" dip =
(naturals) and somewhere around 1 3/4" hammer blow (ahem, or whatever =
gets me the escapement relationship I'm after), and repetition is =
lightening fast. I'm not a trained pianist, but keydip much over =
13/32" (.406") begins to feel clumsy to me. I'm under the =
persuasion that power is generated more by the resiliency of the hammer =
than the blow distance. In Nashville, the Steinway techs said they =
are now recommending and using .400 on everything.</DIV><DIV><BR =
