Recommendations

Hi Stan,

From the PTG Website:

Guidelines for
Effective Institutional Piano Maintenance
by the College and University Technicians Committee
Meet the unique challenge of servicing large inventories with
this helpful reference for technicians and
administrators.

It is available on the PTG Website and costs $10.00 US.

Gentlemen and ladies,

Would someone be so kind as to remind me whether Steinway publishes
actual recommendations for institutional piano service? I
thought I recall some mention of this but I could be confusing it with
the CAUT guidelines.

I have been caring for a 6 year old 'B' at the Asper Jewish Community
Campus here in Winnipeg, which is desperately in need of
attention.
This is a performance instrument in a small venue, which nevertheless
can't project well to the back of the hall.

Artists are generally polite, but when pressed, usually agree that the
action is 'heavy and unresponsive' (I have the t/w numbers to support
this, but won't bore you with them ... yet) coupled with relatively
soft hammers.

The challenge is to convince the generous donors of this instrument
that further investment is necessary to bring out it's best. I'd
like to intersperse my recommendations with 'official' Steinway and
PTG bulletins.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Best regards from the frozen Canadian prairie,

Stan Kroeker, RPT
