I have never been accused of being the most observant person=
in the world. I'm just not as aware visually as I am=
aurally. I was just working on the actions of a couple of=
our newer Steinways and for the first time, noticed that they=
keys didn't have the maple insert at the balance=
rail hole. A couple of weeks ago I worked on an=
"L" and a "D" (both serial numbers > 500,000) and the "D" had=
a long maple top plate under the button that I'm sure was to=
help prevent flex on those long keys. The "L" didn't have=
that plate, but both of them were just plain on the bottom.

Speaking of changes, when did Steinway change from .146 front=
rail pins to these .128s they are using now? Did all=
this come about when they started using the Kluge keys with=
the wider profile?

Inquiring minds and all that............
