Over the years I have had similar problems with Tokiwa,</font></blockquote> <div><br></div> <div>Tokiwa are manufacturing the wippens and shanks & flanges for our Overs grand action. We experienced the dreaded seizing problem with the first three actions Tokiwa built for us<font color="#0000FF"> (piano no. 3 in 2001 was our last instrument to be fitted with the problem centers before the fix - while some of you were sleeping overnight at the Reno convention, I was on occasion down at the piano recentering the odd hammer center)</font>. However, after some discussion of the problem with Tokiwa, they are now making our action using Renner bushing cloth. The culprit almost always is a bad run of bushing cloth although it can combine with improperly dried wood so that the hole itself is moving which I have had with Abel on occasion.</font></blockquote> </blockquote> <div><br></div> <div>The problem can also occur with good bushing cloth. It is important, when making the parts, to ensure that sufficient time is allowed after installing the bush for the cloth/flange glue to thoroughly dry before dipping the parts to swell the bush. If the parts are dipped to early, the glue can migrate through the bushing to the centre pin/bushing contact area. This can allow the glue to deposit on the pin which will ultimately result in the galling which many of us have experienced.</div> <div><br></div> <div>When we had problems with the aforementioned galling in our earlier actions, I raised the issue of allowing time between bushing and dipping with Tokiwa.
