<p>Thanks for the update and sorry to hear it did not work out to your
satisfaction. It is clear from previous discussions that there is no guarantee
all the cures mentioned will work. Regarding the capo, sometimes we get
lucky, sometimes not. I have been leaning towards the school of thought
that suggests good tone can be achieved without the front duplex section
ringing at a higher harmonic of the speaking length. Yes, that would mean
major rescaling for Steinway, etc. (Not likely to happen :-) It seems to
me that a lot of problems could be solved by this design. Pardon me if
I'm incorrect, I believe Del has proposed this on the lists and in the
Journal.

I ordered the #5050 back during our last discussion and filed the first
section on the B in question, jumped through all hoops, repositioning
the strings, seating everything, leveling strings, fitting
hammers/strings, etc, etc, and while the sound improved, the problem
still existed on a few notes and the piano is being returned. I, in
effect, failed in my attempt with this file. My radius appeared similar
to the original, no measurements were made. And before I did the work
the bar was very rough, pitted and had some paint touching at some
string terminations, so I felt I could improve it. But, I now wonder
about front duplex and string angle going down to that V and the length
of that front duplex length and it's affect. I don't want to beat a
dead horse, but I am still on a quest for a cure. If anyone buys a file
or finds a cure/formula I am all ears. My efforts on this particular
piano with that particular file were, for the most part, unsuccessful.

P.S. I have been eyeing Mason & Hamlins with the V across half of the
scale and notice major differences in design and wonder again about
their front duplex termination materials, lengths, angles and such.
