If this is a 'fretted' clavichord (meaning more than one note per course - o=
r pair - of strings) the tangents will probably have been bent to 'tune' the=
interval formed by the two (sometimes three) notes using the same strings.&=
nbsp; This can give an irregular, snaggletoothed appearance, but it's the on=
ly way to fine tune these intervals since they share the same strings. =
Once set, these tangents can be left bent indefinitely and will retain the =
same tuning relative to one another. If they are extremely bent, it ma=
y be evidence that the temperament in use is not the one for which the keybo=
ard was laid out; or it may be evidence that someone didn't understand the s=
cheme!<BR>
