According to my electronic dictionary (and my other ones as well, I guess),
a gram is defined as "a metric unit of mass and weight equal to
one-thousandth of a kilogram". From the Greek "gramma", meaning a small
weight. That's funny, I always thought "gramma" was my mother's mother. Oh
well...
