The BB I worked on here had been treated "badly" by some mystery tooner who did the lubrication routine on the strings. Unfortunately their concept of a "light" application was faulty. The oil (probably WD-40) got everywhere including on the hammers. The end result was not pretty. I agree with Barbara, when you have little to loose unorthodox solutions are appropriate.
