Hi Bill, I don't think so; force is force. If the force is the same it can and will do the same amount of work. The definition of force is the ability to do work, in our cas i.e. move the string. I think what we sould be talking about is momentum not force; two similar ideas. Momentum = mass*velocity. On colision with the string a light hammer can have the same momentum as a heavy hammer if it's velocity is proportionately greater. May the force be with you. J.H.
