I have 8 KG-2C, 4 Howard (same scale), 10 UST-7 and 1 GS-50.
The 50 was recently restrung. I evaluated the scale since I was not happy
with the bass. I found that in several places, especially in the bass and in
the treble that the tension exceeded 70% breaking point. Overall the scale
has too high tension and too low inharmonicity. Considering that the KG-2Cs
consistantly break more strings that all the other 100+ pianos combined, no
exaduration, I lept the to unconfirmed conclusion that they too had too high
tension in the treble.
On the GS-50 I lowered string size to bring tension down and completely
redesigned the bass for higher inharmonicity and lower tension. Result is a
really nice sounding piano. Additionally we CA glued the bridge pins in,
reset bearing, Bondo-ed block to plate and securely glued block to rasten and
rim, regulated the action (original hammers) and put into a performance and
class area for daily use. So far so good. There is an S&S B in the same
room. The B is louder but the GS has a much deeper bass with stronger first
partials.
Now if I can only get Ray here to look at it I will be completely happy.
