In my experience I would say that the Petrof piano is considerably higher in quality than Samick or any other Korean piano for that matter. Not that there aren't any problems with Petrof's. Just that the problems are generally minor and not that much hassle to deal with. As another post stated that the sound quality on Samicks is nothing to get excited about, the Petrofs I've heard and tuned sound pretty good. >Any< piano in the Wash. DC area needs a climate control system so I always recommend having. I expect the Petrof to respond more positively to climate control than any Korean piano I've seen. Good luck to your friend.
