:Scraping Hamilton jacks/butts

I have a customer with a Baldwin Hamilton from the 1980's.  There is a
scraping noise when the key is released and the jack resets, and, of
course the jacks are also sluggish.  Is there a tried and true fix for
this problem?  I couldn't think of a better place to consult the experts!
