Teacher's piano problem

Newton,
   Thanks for you post. I'll pass it on. One comment about your last statement:

RE: If the dampers are hard it could be caused by the damper dancing on the
    strings before finally muting.

   I really don't think this one could be the cause. The way I understand it
is he hears the noise on the attack of the hammer, not the dampening. And
the piano is also only 4 years old. Could the dampers get that hard, that
soon?
