Hi Avery,
      The problem of the pfffft in the bass could be the dampers.  The
easiest way to find out if they are the cause is to lift and hold the damper
prior to playing the note.  Does it still make the noise?  If not then the
problem is the damper.  If the noise is still there, keep looking!
