Dear Wilkinson & list: The humidifier freshener works. It keeps "goop" from growing in the water, in the tube and on the pads. The pads should still be changed on a regular basis. (Three to four months would be good). The new Smart Heater Bar is the best solution. I prefer to call the the best advancement since the humidistat. The humidifier heater bar turns off and a red light flashes when the pads are no longer getting mositure on top for evaporation. All new systems come with an 8oz bottle of humidifier treatment. The smart heater bar can be ordered as part of a system or as a retro fit kit to install on an older grand or vertical tank. It just takes a few minutes. Call or E-Mail if you have questions.
