Damper felt

Hi doug,
In my opinion the felt you are talking about acts like a softener, a =
shoch absorber.
Take for instance the dampers in an upright, they usually all have =
thick felt pieces plus the lining felt in order to soften the contact =
between the strongly vibrating string and the damper block.
what do you say?
