Restringing and Rosin

Greetings, all!

There was a fairly extensive thread on this subject about a year, or so
ago. It revealed that many technicians liked to use one of the commercial-
ly available "pin driving fluids" when restringing. These are usually a
high-quality spar varnish. Not only do they aid in the driving in of the
pin, but once dry (takes a day or two) their use imparts a smooth, even
"feel" to the pin when it's being turned--almost like tuning with "power
steering", as one tech put it! Note: don't panic if, at first, the pins
have a somewhat "loose" feel to them. That's common for the first day or
two, until the fluid has had a chance to dry thoroughly.
