Dear Lance, thanks for your response and suggestion. to clarify [I hope]: As it happens, on this model there are no existing plate screws in that section...the only few plate screws located at the top of the plate are located BEYOND each end of the separation gap [one is just below the tenor/bass break, the other is about a 1/2 octave beyond the gap toward the treble end...there are no plate screws located in the plate along where the gap itself appears! This is to say that the top row of tuning pins in that section is practically at the top edge of the pinblock and the plate, hence no room to drill for a carriage bolt. The existing screws, altho replaceable, don't help clamp the gap closed because they are located too far past the ends of the gap to be of any consequence....lovely, ain't it?!
