If you pursue this, Susan, don't forget to design the angle at which the
blade leaves the body at close to 90 degrees (almost straight
up-and-down).  My toothing plane is at the shop (where I should be right
now) and I am here at home on the computer, so I can't check details. 
But the object of this tool will not be to cut or slice, so the blade
should not contact the work piece at the normal plane blade angle.

For occasional use, you could easily use the blade all by itself,
drawing it along the work piece.
